Installing PipeDream 4 on a network fileserver
The two directories on this disc help network managers install PipeDream 4 on a file server, and enable individual users to have their own Choices files, user dictionaries etc. The following instructions assume that you are the network manager. Note that you may only use PipeDream 4 from a file server if your school has a PipeDream 4 site licence. If you do not have a site licence, or you are unsure, contact Colton Software.
!PDGlobal is a directory which you need to install in the public area of your fileserver. This will contain (after some help from you - see below) all of the files needed to get PipeDream 4 going. !PipeDream (provided in the directory User) is a directory which you need to provide to all users for their private directories which contains just enough to start up using the PipeDream in !PDGlobal.
Two files are missing from the !PDGlobal on the supplied disc. These are the main PipeDream 4 code !PipeDream.!RunImage and the master dictionary !PipeDream.Dicts.Master which you need to provide from your installed PipeDream 4 Master disc. In fact !PDGlobal contains a !RunImage requesting you to read this file, so delete that first.
Copy !PDGlobal to the public area of the fileserver where you would normally have your applications. Then copy into !PDGlobal the main PipeDream 4 code '!RunImage' from the !PipeDream directory of your original PipeDream 4 Master or Working disc. Note that this should become !PDGlobal.!RunImage and not !PDGlobal.!PipeDream.!RunImage. Also copy into !PDGlobal.Dicts the master dictionary 'Master' from the !PipeDream.Dicts directory of your PipeDream 4 Master or Working disc. Note that this should become !PDGlobal.Dicts.Master and not !PDGlobal.!PipeDream.Dicts.Master or !PDGlobal.Master.
In the directory User on the supplied disc is a directory !PipeDream which should be copied into each user's private directory. Note that this !PipeDream does not contain the PipeDream 4 code and dictionary but just contains files to boot PipeDream from !PDGlobal, and directories into which users can save their own resources for use with PipeDream.
The user runs PipeDream by showing !PDGlobal to RISC OS (best done by a logon boot file) and then double-clicking on !PipeDream 4 in his/her own directory. The local !Run file will start up the PipeDream 4 contained in !PDGlobal.
If a user saves Choices files or creates and uses User Dictionaries or Templates these will be saved in the !PipeDream in the user's own directory.
